    Sun 03 Mar 2024

Come and visit our Book Fair- Wednesday 29th February-Tuesday 5th March 2024.

  • Plas Gwynant 2024- Day 4

    Thu 22 Feb 2024

What a fantastic last full day!  The rain finally stopped and the clouds cleared to reveal the warm, winter sunshine- perfect 😊.

We began the day (bright and early) with our chores to help keep the Plas Centre clean and tidy.  Our grumbling tummies then led us to the dining room so that we could tuck into our breakfast.  Breakfasts have been amazing, there’s no better way to start the day than on a full stomach.

After making our lunch and meeting for our daily team briefing, we packed our rucksack and headed out for the day: beach exploring, mountain hiking and gorge walking.

Together, we completed another awesome day tackling tricky terrain and climbing challenges that we never imagined we would conquer.  Finally, we soaked up every last view, valley and waterfall on our journey home to the Centre- we will definitely miss the beautiful views and scenery.

To finish our time here at Plas Gwynant, we are currently dancing the night away before we climb those wooden hills for the last time.

We can’t wait to see you and tell you all about the fantastic activities (and challenges) that we have been lucky enough to experience as an All Saints team!

  • Plas Gwynant 2024- Day 1, 2 & 3

    Wed 21 Feb 2024

We don’t quite know where to start but we can definitely reassure you that we are having the most AMAZING time!  We haven’t actually been here that long but it already feels like home.

Over the last 3 days, the weather has been pretty wet- mild but wet!  (We were totally led into false pretences when we arrived as the sun was very quickly smothered by thick, dismal clouds.)  The Plas staff -Jeff, Dan, Mel Charlie and Kev- are ace and have challenged us both as a team and individually.  So far, we have been canoeing, abseiling, mining and beach exploring; the weather hasn’t been ideal but it that hasn’t dampened our spirits or stopped us getting stuck in!

Our days are jam-packed (7:30am-9:30pm) but we don’t mind as we are constantly learning new skills, building stronger relationships with our peers and stepping outside of our comfort zone.

Wales is a beautiful part of the world, with stunning views and hidden gems, take a look at us in action!

  • Frank Chapman– Day 2 2024

    Tue 16 Jan 2024

What a fantastic day we’ve had!  We began the day nice and early with breakfast in the dining room– up, dressed, teeth brushed and beds made all by 8:00am.  The temperature has been low again today, but the warmth of the sun put a spring in our step!

After breakfast, we headed to the Boot Room to get wrapped up warm for our morning activities.  Ready and    waiting, in the outdoor classroom, were our Frank Chapman leaders Matt, McCauley and Jo.  Together, in our groups, we tackle new activities: mining, climbing, bush craft, archery and geo caching.  Soon our belly’s started rumbling so we sat down for lunch and delved into fresh cobs, crisps and doughnuts– we were ravenous!

During the afternoon, we completed more activities together– following a trail deep into the forest, climbing the bouldering wall and navigating using the GPS.  Together, we faced challenges, preserved, encouraged our friends and developed new skills and independence.

As the night sky hid the evening sunshine, we warmed our toes in the Common Room, played games and shared books before tucking into our evening meal and pudding.

Finally, our evening was then complete with a film, hot chocolate and cake to celebrate the two birthday girls!

We are now tucked up in bed to get a full nights sleep, ready for the last day!

    Speak very soon!

  • Frank Chapman– Day 1 2024

    Mon 15 Jan 2024

From the moment we got here, to the moment we flaked into bed it has been non stop!

As we arrived, we were greeted by the Frank Chapman staff (Matt, Kat and Chris) and welcomed into the outdoor classroom.  Our day was going to be a busy one so we unpacked our suitcase, made our beds and headed down to have lunch– we were starving!

After lunch, we made our way to the meeting point- the weather was beautiful! The sun warmed the winter air as we headed out (in our groups) to complete an afternoon of activities: archery, blind lines, climbing, mining and geo-caching.

Soon after, we filled our bellies once more and then wrapped up warm for our night walk!

We are now tucked up in bed, after a hot chocolate and biscuit; fast asleep!

    Speak soon!

  • Yr6 Frank Chapman Day 2

    Thu 20 Jul 2023

We all had a good night's sleep and we didn't wake our teachers up too early!

Today we had some climbing activities to do. The instructors showed us how to put on our harnesses and helmet safely and then showed us the high ropes. They really were high! We had 4 different activities to do over the day.

On the high ropes we had to challenge ourselves to climb as high as we could. This wasn't easy and we had to climb on ropes ladders, tyres and ropes. Sometimes there wasn't much to hold on to. The instructors showed us how to keep our friends safe by holding their safety ropes as a team.

We also had to try to climb a very tall tree. When we got to the top, our friends had to lower us down.

Some of found the abseil a little scary. We had to climb the climbing wall and then our instructor helped us abseil down. Stepping back over the edge was very scary but we all managed it!

We built some excellent team work skills in the crate stacking challenge. We had to work with a partner to build and stand on the highest tower of milk crates. They weren't very big and they were very wobbly! The winning pair managed to scale 14 crates!

After tea, we walked down into the forest and collected materials to make some Earth Art. We also collected some clay to make our own funny faces.

  • Yr6 Frank Champan - Day 1

    Wed 19 Jul 2023

We’ve had a great day today. We had a tour of the centre as soon as we arrived and had get unpacked and make our beds. Some of us found this quite tricky!

After that, we had some free time to explore the grounds. We played football, played on the obstacle course and went to have a look at the resident chickens.

Then it was time for our first activity. We had to be brave and explore a mine with our group. It was quite a small space and very dark and muddy inside. At least it was so dark we couldn’t see the spiders! We also built our teamworking skills by completing a blind line. The person at the front of the line was our leader and everyone else had to wear a blindfold. We had to follow the rope around forest while they helped us. There were quite a few obstacles to get over and under and even a few very muddy (and slippery!) puddles.

By now, we were all very hungry so we all enjoyed our tea. For our evening activity, we played a game called 101. Each team had 101 questions about the Frank Chapman centre that they had to find the answer to, the only problem was the answers were spread all over the site! The winning team scored an amazing 83 out of 101!

We are all very excited for tomorrow when we get to see how brave we are on the high ropes and the climbing wall.

  • Frank Chapman- Day 4

    Thu 16 Mar 2023

For our final full day at Frank Chapman, we got stuck in and enjoyed every second!

In the dinner hall, cereal and toast awaited us. After announcing the winning table, we headed to the boot room to get ready for the day ahead.

Across the day, we worked within our teams to learn new skills and complete the activities:

Bush Craft: we worked in teams of 4 to build a shelter and explore different techniques to build a camp fire.

Archery: in groups of 3, we learnt how to place the arrow into the hold and create the correct stance to shoot the arrow holding the bow.

Farm: in two teams, we walked to the farm and visited Stu (the owner) and his working farm animals. We got to see lots of animals and learnt all about `a life in the day of a farmer`.

Earth Art: in small groups, we went on a scavenger hunt and used the natural materials to create a piece of forest art work.

We ended a very muddy yet fun day with a warm shower, hot chocolate and biscuits.  We have had a fantastic time but we can’t wait to get home and tell you all about it!

    See you very soon!

  • Frank Chapman- Day 3

    Wed 15 Mar 2023

Well, we didn’t think we could top yesterday but we have had an awesome day!

Our day began bright and early as we headed down to the dinner hall for pancakes- yum!

We had another fun-filled day ahead so we set off in our groups to complete more challenging activities:

Geocaching: we began with a tech session explaining how to use the GPS. After that, we set off in threes and began to locate the hidden geocaches to crack the code.

Farm: in two groups, we set off leaving the Frank Chapman Centre behind us. We followed the trail through the forest that led to the beautiful fields surrounding the farm. Stu, the owner, gave us a tour of his own family farm- it was so cool!

Earth Art: we were given the task to go on a scavenger hunt to find a range of adjectives.  Once we had matched the words and the colours, we were able to place it in our nature picture frame. Take a look below to see some of our fantastic art work!

After a busy day, we completed our daily tasks to keep the centre site clean.

We finished the day with another scrumptious meal, followed by an evening activity and hot chocolate with biscuits.

We can’t wait to see you to tell you all about it.

    Speak soon,

Year 3, Year 4 and All Saints Staff
