God, who began the good work within us,
will continue his work until it is finished.

Black History Month

This year, we will be marking Black History Month through the theme of “Honouring our Communities”. Throughout
October, children will explore how people, families and communities help to shape the places where we live. Through
stories, historical enquiry, discussion and creative activities, pupils will learn about the ways individuals and groups have
contributed to their local communities and the wider world. Our aim is to help children reflect on the importance of
identity, connection, respect and the value of the diverse communities that make up modern Britain.

As part of this work, every class will create a large collaborative collage inspired by the idea of community. Children will
think about the people, places, traditions, events and experiences that make our school and wider community special.
These individual class collages will celebrate the many different voices, experiences and connections that help our
community thrive.

To support this project, children may wish to bring in photographs, copies of photographs, magazine cuttings, printed
images or other suitable paper-based items that represent people, places or traditions that are important to them. Please
note that any materials sent into school will be incorporated into the artwork and cannot be returned, so we ask that
families do not send original or irreplaceable items. Photocopies or printed copies are encouraged wherever possible
